Dr. Mark Lewis, President-Elect of AIAA

 

On April 16, 2009, The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) announced the results of its 2009 Board of Directors election. The newly elected board members will begin their term of office on May 14. Incoming President David W. Thompson will be succeeded next year by President-Elect Mark Lewis.

Dr. Lewis, who recently ended his term as the Chief Scientist of the US Air Force, is an AIAA Fellow, is also a fellow with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and a President's Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.

His expertise has been sought after by various panels and news organizations including the Department of Defense "TARA" review panel, the National Defense Science and Engineering Fellowship Selection panel, several panels for NASA, as well as other notable organizations. Dr. Lewis has also provided several interviews to media outlets such as ABC News with Peter Jennings, Good Morning America, National Public Radio (NPR), and Newsday.

Dr. Lewis, a Willis Young Professor, received two B.S. degrees, his M.S., and a Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research interests include hypersonic aerodynamics, advanced propulsion, and engine-airframe interaction. His distinguished career is also underscored by numerous journal publications and articles in conference proceedings. Dr. Lewis will also be the keynote speaker at the AIAA conference this May in Palm Springs, California.
